Ok New Hill and all UA residents. What to you think of this. A candidates forum where you can't ask questions but a government that can take action on your property/

What is wrong with this picture??

2005 CARY CANDIDATE FORUM SET

CARY, NC ˇV Make plans now to play an active role in the 2005 Cary Community Candidate Forum, the first and only forum for candidates for local office sponsored by a Triangle local government, and the only forum for local offices to be aired this year on Cary TV 11. Sponsored by the Town of Cary and managed by the League of Women Voters of Wake County, the Cary forum will be taped and played daily on the Townˇ¦s government access channel and available on the Townˇ¦s web site until Election Day. Questions asked of candidates will come from Cary citizens who phone, fax, e-mail, or postal mail them to the League in July and August.

HOW IT WILL WORK
As in 2003, candidates for open seats on the Cary Town Council and Wake County School Board that represent Cary will be invited to participate in the Cary forum, which will be taped in the Cary Town Council Chambers on Wednesday, September 14th, according to the following schedule:

8:00 a.m. ˇV School Board District 2
9:30 a.m. ˇV School Board District 7
11:00 a.m. ˇV School Board District 9
1:30 p.m. ˇV Town Council District A
3:00 p.m. ˇV Town Council District C
4:30 p.m. ˇV Town Council At-Large

Segments lasting about 75 minutes will be comprised of opening remarks from candidates followed by the traditional forum question and answer period during which a League moderator will read aloud questions from Cary citizens. Each segment will end with brief closing remarks by the candidates. After all the segments are taped, they will be edited into several renditions, including one large ˇ§mega forumˇ¨ program as well as smaller programs such as one on district seats to be shown daily on Cary TV 11. If runoffs occur, the second round of forum segment tapings will be held in the Town Council Chambers on October 20th, times to be announced later.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Cary citizens ˇV Submit questions now through August 31st. Questions will be reviewed and selected by the forum manager ˇV League of Women Voters of Wake County ˇV and read to candidates for the first time during the forum. Include your name and address since anonymous questions and questions from non-Cary citizens are not eligible. Submit questions via phone, fax, e-mail, or postal mail:

ATTN: CARY CANDIDATE FORUM
PO Box 10345
Raleigh, NC 27605
(919) 856-1983, phone and fax
lwvwake@aol.com

Candidates ˇV Mark your calendars now for your segment taping date and time. You will receive an invitation letter and follow-up information over the next several weeks.

Voters ˇV Tune in to watch the forum, which will be cablecast regularly on Cary TV 11 September 22-October 10. Or, view it online at www.townofcary.org during that same period.

BACKGROUND
The idea of the Townˇ¦s hosting a forum dates back to the fall of 2001 when a record number of candidate forums sponsored by special interest groups were cablecast on the Townˇ¦s government access channel, Cary TV 11. Complaints about that situation led the Town Council to ask staff to develop alternatives. After nine months of research, which included meetings with past forum sponsors, staff recommended in August of 2002 the concept of one large ˇ§mega forumˇ¨ ˇV now known as the Cary Community Candidate Forum. Benefits of this approach include:
?X Allowing for increased community focus and involvement
?X Eliminating the issue of candidate endorsements
?X Providing a better product for viewers
?X Reducing the amount of time candidates and Town staff spend in forums

The first Cary Community Forums were held in the fall of 2003. For more, see www.townofcary.org.

"Mr Hyatt, if you could be any kind of pizza, what pizza would you be?"

Yes - even you :-) but that's an awfully tough question. I think I'd have to respond thus:

Mr. JohnB,
Thanks for participating in today's forum. Your question goes to the very heart of what's great about this county. Freedom. Freedom of choice. Freedom to choose whatever kind of pizza you want. I hear today to let you know that I support that kind of freedom and, if elected, will fight for you to make sure your children can grow up and pick out their own pizza one day.

(Should have been warm, fuzzy, and avoided answering the question. Am I ready ;-)

Guest, New Hill Residents, Rono, others: surely you and others know some Cary residents who would be happy to ask the same questions you would like to ask.

And Hyatt, boxers or briefs? :-D

No specific answer, completely pointless response, wrapped yourself in an issue/cause/commodity most everyone likes (hey, he likes pizza, he wouldn't be a crook!) and you mentioned "the children". Soccer mommys all around Cary would get dewey eyed and passionate about your candidacy. Is that MrsHyatt laughing in the background again?

It came close, ever so close, to bringing a tear to my eye.

9.8

I would score you a "10" but you left out "this great nation".

I would score you a "10" but you left out "this great nation".

Also left out [choose one]: "stay the course" (for incumbents) or "time for a change" (for challengers).

Also left out "We can, me must and we shall!"

Nevertheless, though, the answer covered most everything else, as JohnB points out.

No.

Oh ****, you blew it. Now all those soccer mommys are imagining DonH going commando. You haven't a chance now pal.

You have to embrace the inclusiveness of a plethora of undergarment styles or the lack of undergarments and the religious, political, and sexual traditions of diverse tribal, linguistic, and ethnic communities from which this veritable rainbow of various types and methods of garments worn under the out layering of clothing as well as counter cultural themes present within subgroups of each of the larger groups which challenged the dominant undergarment paradigm yet did not necessary threaten the overall wonderul nature of the particular group in question since both the dominant majority and the youthfully exhuberant challengers are present today in this great city and certainly make valuable contributions to the eclectic mix of religions, races, languages, cultures, and pizza toppings found within this vibrant, multicultural community that is rapidly embracing SmartGrowth(tm) and the attendant placement of light rail in downtown Cary in order to ease the transition from an automobile centric community into a more pedestrian friendly place with latte shops up and down Chatham Street on the site of the former Frantz Automotive all hugging hte site of a commuter rail station silhoutted against a backdrop of upscale, high density residential units bringing yuppies, yippies, dinks, and dorks all together for a munincipal group hug directed by JULIEFORCARY!.

DonH, THAT is how it is done my friend, one sentence, 2 minutes of talking, no punctuation marks, kissing the *** of every conceivable dirt ball that could or might possible vote or at least be in the zip code on election day. Now do you see why you didn't win in the past? NEVER answer the question no matter how direct it may be! Not even in a way that would preserve your privacy or modesty, just answer a different question. Whatever question is asked is completely irrelevant. Has nothing to do with anything. Watch CSPAN dude, CongressCritters never address the question that's asked, except to move it to the side so they can barrell on to answer the unasked question they want to answer.

heads up...

It's my understanding that many of the "soccer mommies" (as you call us  ) in the area are going to start lobbying the local city council persons to be sure that all vaccines in Wake County are thimerosal-free.

You might watch out for that one...it has the potential to get REALLY ugly.

Well, it's a tough situation. Thimerosal is a preservative in vaccines that is 49.6% organic mercury by molar mass. It's present in vaccines at a rate of 0.1% by volume.

It's only a trace amount, but in the early 90s lots of vaccines were added to the schedule. Mecury exposure is measured by weight, and some of these children were getting 125 times 8O the EPA recommended maximum mecury exposure in just one day from a few of these shots.

Everyone thought that since thimerosal was present in such a small amount it wouldn't hurt anything. No one ever bothered to do the math.

There's no proof that thimerosal causes autism, but there's no proof that it doesn't.

But I don't think there's any question that we shouldn't be shooting our kids up with 125 times the EPA recommended maximum amount of organic mercury.

I still vaccinate my children on the recommended schedule, but I've been known to request single dose vials (that don't use mercury-based preservatives) and demand to know the production lot numbers of their shots to make sure that there isn't mercury in them.

I've got a GREAT book that explains the history/background and the science of the issue if you're interested. A bunch of wacky soccer mommies didn't just decide one day that shots caused their kids' autism.

I'm telling you though, the moms who believe thimerosal caused their kids' autism are not to be trifled with. They can get REALLY crazy.

Mr. Hyatt,
Have you ever jumped on the couch to declare your love for someone or claimed to be an expert on psychiatry and called it a crock? Would you keep people like that out of Cary?

Jumping on a couch could damage it and I'd never be that thoughtless. Psychiatry is something I'm deeply conflicted over and my ambivalence makes it very hard to make a useful decision as to whether confused people should live in Cary or simply run the place.

So close...sigh...better but not quite there Don.

Laurie,

The love and concern I have for the city of Cary, for the people of this great city, and for individual Cary citizens such as my wife and daughter are best expressed through the hard work and dedication I have always brought in service to the people of this wonderfully diverse and progressive city that desire to serve the highly educated and technically savy voters of the city of Cary precludes me from ever misrepresenting my personal credentials in any form or fashion as honesty is an integral component of my character and I will never compromise my principles or integrity just to gain political office or favor and I promise you, the voters of Cary that I will surround myself only with the the best and the brightest in the city of Cary because that is what you the people of this great city deserve and expect of your elected leaders I am humbled that you would entrust your city, your hopes, and your dreams of a future for your children in this magnificent community to me and I will work day and night to ensure that that trust is never violated and never left unfulfilled.

NOW do you get it? One sentence, inhale, start exhaling multi-culti gibberish and don't stop til you've smothered her in ********...hit all the key words, get the soccer mommies politically aroused, get the soccer daddys to think you're a regular whatever they are and you got it pal.

The voters are idiots. How else can people like little Johnny Edwards, Captain Hair, be explained?

Geez, Hyatt, you are not a very good pupil of JohnB at all.

After JohnB's tutorials, I expected something like:

In this modern vibrant community that we call Cary, diversity is valued and because we know that aliens are people too we embrace aliens in Cary and strive to provide them with the resources that will enable them to realize their potential and become contributing members of our society because only when we stop treating aliens as if they were foreigners or were from outer space will be be able to realize the unique and valuable perspectives that aliens bring to this melting pot we call Cary and after all it really boils down to teaching our children and it is for the children that we must increase our quality of life and I shall now demonstrate leadership and compassion by kissing your baby.

I'm still coveting that seat on the Soil & Water Conservation Board, but Dick Nixon is a formidable opponent.

But you're right, we can work up something. How about:

I am passionate about the conservation of soil and I care deeply about the conservation of water and that is why, after much thoughtful consideration and many hug-filled discussions with my dear family, and by the way please notice the posed photo of me in a suit with my family and an Irish setter that we rented because we don't currently have a dog, yes, my friends, decided that I can serve you best in conserving soil, not to mention conserving water, by humbly throwing my hat in the ring for the lofty and important soil and water conservation board, because I know that conserving soil is important to our valued senior citizens and conserving water is for the children and I shall now demonstrate my passion and deep caring by shaking your hand and smiling while the band behind me plays Stars and Stripes Forever.

Hey Brent,

I may have a shot, I'm one of eight on the ballot for this coveted position, it's only a year after you made this original post, and Dick Nixon must have missed the cutoff for 2006 as he's not one of us this go around!! Could I possibly slip through and land this fish! hmmmm..... Possibly put some advanced education in estuarine ecology to use? Although the Stars and Stripes played on kazoo with a set of bagpipes on backup ( although the Norwegian yoddler backed out on me) doesn't appeal to everyone, frankly neither do I, so it should be a helluva campaign strategy....
