PLAN NOW FOR NATIONAL NIGHT OUT
*
Choose from three ways to participate in the Town of Cary’s National Night Out activities, all of which will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2005.* (1) Citizens can drop by the Senior Center in Bond Park where dozens of public safety officials and vendors will provide crime prevention and safety demonstrations, information, and giveaways for kids and adults;* (2) Spanish-speaking residents are encouraged to attend a similar event at the police substation at 310 Cheswick Place within the Briarcliff Apartment Complex; (3) Homeowners’ associations and neighborhoods can plan block parties to host Cary public safety officers and elected officials who will be driving from spot to spot that evening.* Get involved by calling (919) 469-4324 or go to www.townofcary.org.

And a big thumbs up to Cary for starting this:

If you do anything, just leave the outside light on a little longer, and meet your neighbors.

I am posting this off a community e-mail I received. It has some real good ideas for your own "Night Out!"

National Night Out is designed to:

* Heighten Crime and Drug awareness
* Generate support for, and participation in, anti-crime programs
* Strengthen Neighborhood Spirit
* Foster police-community partnerships
* Send a message to criminals that we are organized & informed

Some Suggestions: Turn on your porch lights, go out and meet your neighbors beside you and across the street, exchange phone numbers and e-mails with your neighbors, make sure all your accessible windows are locked, double-check all the exterior locks on your own home, go over your families fire safety protocols, make sure you can open your windows on the 2nd floor in case of emergency, walk around the neighborhood and meet other neighbors, check over your emergency phone numbers, think about your 3-day plan if you have no water, no sewer, no gas, and no electricity, ..........see above websites.

Have a great night out!

In my neighborhood, we are planning a Ice Cream social and visits from the Cary PD, Cary FD, and EMS. What is happening in your neighborhood?

In Silverton, we are having a pot-luck with visits from the same groups. We did this last year and it was a big success. As long as the heat does not keep away all of the RSVPs we have received, we should have another strong turnout this year.

Wup - many of the residents have expressed interest in starting a Neighborhood Watch. We should combine efforts since we are so close.
