I just learned that Mike Curran filed to run 'at-large'. In CP's opinion, this makes for two very interesting choices so far for the at-large race.

Oh wow. He will give her a run for her money...That will be a very good / exciting race. But he may get hung up being a one issue candidate. That may be too hard for him to overcome.

I should also point out that since Mr. Curran is in, Mr. Hyatt is out.

How should I interpret your comment? Does it mean that Curran has the support of the Republican Party - rather than yourself?

Yes - that would be the most accurate way to describe the Curran(t) situation.

The GOP'ers are generally better at party discipline/uniting behind one candidate early in the process than are the Donkeycrats.

On a national level, state level or local level?

Absolutely on a national level.

Remember Teddy Kennedy running against an incumbent Donkeycrat President? He desperately wounded Jimmy Carter.

The party united early around GWB in 2000, much to McCain's chagrin. That race was never as close as the media wanted it to be.

At the state level, the Donkey's hold on power is slipping. Every state in the region has flipped from Donkey to GOP of late and the writing is on the wall here too. The NC Donkeys should be commended for their tenacity is resisting the inevitable. They're going down the tubes, they just delayed it as long as possible. With both Senate seats locked up solid GOP and a Sue Myrick run for Governor I think this next election cycle will break the Donkeys hold on things. After the next census you can kiss the era of Donkeycrat rule in NC goodbye. The GOP in NC suffers from too few statewide victories. When that momentum builds things will solidify.

Locally, the GOP'ers in Western Wake have a lot of learning/growing to do.

Matt, the difference between the two parties is simple. The Donkeys have a coalition of people that hate each other almost as much as they hate the GOP. The GOP'ers have a coalition that has best been described as the "leave me alone coalition". The home schoolers don't care about the 2nd Amendment activists who don't care about the small business owners who don't care about the religious conservatives who don't care about the economic conservatives. Some people may fit into several of those camps, others only one. But ultimately the home schoolers have no reason to fight the small business owners. Contrast that with your party where the envirofascists at Greenpeace and the Sierra Club try to co-exist with the industrial labor unions. That doesn't work out to well, that's the Dean faction versus the Gephardt faction. There is a reason the GOP'ers are able to pull such a large chunk of votes out of industrial union households, when those jobs are in coal, steel, autos, and petroleum those jobs are at risk because of other members of the Donkeycrat party.

In other words, Republicans only care about their interests, not what is in the best interest of the County. Thanks for the clarification.

The fact that you make that deliberate mischaracterization is a symptom of a desperate partisan. Thanks for that clarification Matt.

Those of us not registered as Donkeys or GOP'ers have the ability to make honest assesments of the two parties, something you clearly are unwilling to do.

JohnB - For those that know me, they know I do not vote a straight party ticket. I absolutely can make clear assesments of both parties, and often do. I do not follow a President simple by his "word" nor do I allow talk radio mouth pieces to dictate my beliefs.

I'll make a deal with ya, JohnB - name 3 things wrong witht the Republican party/President and I'll name 3 things wrong with the Dem Party/Minority Leadership. H*ll, I could name 10 things wrong with my party...

Regarding the above - this should probably be done on a different post.
