Mr. Webmaster, why do you and other posters feel the need to emphasize Cary Town Council candidate's National party affiliations or non-affiliation when they are filing to run in a non-partisan election? It is my personal belief that National party platforms and/or values have little or no application to Cary municipal government operation.
I can only assume that it is an effort to influence potential uninformed voters by party labels rather than the individual candidates stated ideas and/or past performance. It would seem that there would be some effort on the part of the Webmaster, in particular, to be somewhat objective in order to encourage a wider variety of interest. If that is in fact a goal of this blog.

Fair question. People who want to know look it up anyway so I'm saving them the trouble. If a candidate's party affiliation is perceived as 'positive', then I'm helping them out. If, on the other hand, their party affiliation is perceived as a negative, that should also tell us something. However, regardless of the official "non-partisan" nature of Cary elections, they have been partisan since 1998 and continue to move ever further in that direction. Unless average citizens step up big time and start supporting unaffiliated candidates, that trend is likely to continue.

Lurkie,
When I was shamelessly endorsing DonF. at the polls, I ran into certain "catagories" of folks who were voting. Either they already knew who they were voting for and didn't need my "advice", they were dead set on voting a strict party line even though the election was non partisan, or they had no idea who they were voting for yet. Of those who were undecided usually the first question they asked me was what party my candidate was affiliated with. Issues came second...

You know John, I was waiting for a smart a$$ comment from you!!! Don't worry, I've drank many a beer with him since. Usually while watching a bunch of cars making left hand turns for 3 or more hours... :-D

You're doing it wrong.
You need to have a committee, with titles, and a lot of email addresses of people who will send messages to the council on behalf of their dogs begging for a race track.
"Karen Griffin" is not intimidating to a politician.
"Karen Griffin, Vice President - Membership Mobilization, CURE"
"Don Frantz, President, CURE"
"Brent Miller, Vice President - Candidate Education Programs, CURE"
"Don Hyatt, Vice President - Internet Communications, CURE"
CURE= Caryites United for Racing Equality
See how is that is? Everyone gets to be a VP at the very least, plus an impressive title. Create an organization, the fact that it's hollow means nothing, then you'll get your city funded NASCAR track!

Didn't realize I'd been appointed VP of Candidate Education...guess I'd better get busy.
OK, all candidates, please listen up to this education:
CURE. It's for the children.
And it will pay for itself.
