REI at Crossroads is having its annual Spring Sale. All sorts of goodies on sale and lots of bargins on the clearance racks. I find the clothes there to be a bit on the expensive side, but they are of high quality; i.e., I have had shorts and t-shirts pass thru 3 kids. I picked up a Gerber Paraframe II (3.5") knife for $19.99 (normally $30). Lots of different things for those that camp or bike as well. Go ahead and spend that tax refund!

I have REI to thank for my discovery of non-cotton outdoor wear. When I get caught out in a short rain, or if I get really sweaty, those clothes dry out faster than my hair.
I'd poke fun at those people who walk into REI and hand over their credit card to the employee, saying "Hi, I'm going outside!"...but when I think about it, that pretty much describes me, too.

I love that place....my backpack was filled at REI.....need a new tent this spring.....
John if you're looking for a large tent for one, or a slightly tight but adequate tent for two, REI has their Half Dome 2 tent on sale for about $110. It's pretty small, light enough, and uber simple. Probably can't beat it for the price, I was mighty tempted myself.

Looks like REI is having "another" sale this weekend. This time it is for members. If you look in the N&O you can find a coupon for 20% on one item, but it is for full-price only. So if you are looking at that special tent, sleeping bag, or hiking shoes, this may be the weekend to go.
OT: Special Note: This weekend is also The Dixie Gun & Knife Classic, Inc., at the Jim Grahma Building, N.C. State Fairgrounds. Admission is now $8 (look for $1 off in the sports section of the N&O). This is a great Mother's Day "Date" for after that special breakfest.

Wup,
I am getting ready for the 5th Annual "Homey B is gonna Kick your Butt up the Mountain" 50 miler. Ultra light tent, bag, stove, water purifier, and miscellaneous gear has worked well in the past. This year though I am scouting around for an ultralight hammock. Ditch the 3 lb tent and 1 lb sleeping bag and roll with a hammock and a fleece blanket. I dunno if REI has anything for me, but if they don't Campor does.
What good is summer time if you can't throw a Boy Scout off a waterfal.
