CARY K9 GETS “VESTED”
CARY, NC –The Town of Cary’s first canine officer got an important piece of life-saving equipment today, thanks to the generous donations of a local business and a group of area teens. *The Cary Chapter of Teen Korps and Danny’s Bar-B-Que each donated $350 to the Town of Cary Police Department so that the Town could buy their German shepherd officer, Max, his own bullet-proof vest.* The donation was made Sunday afternoon at a ceremony at Cary’s Lochmere Swim and Tennis Club.
*
“We really appreciate the community’s continued support of our canine program,” said Town of Cary Police Chief Scott Cunningham.* “The safety of every Cary officer, including Max, is our highest priority.”
Acknowledging that a human/canine officer team is a tried and true law enforcement tool, the Cary Town Council voted unanimously in 2004 to establish a canine program as part of the Town’s nationally accredited police department.* Max and his human partner, Master Officer Jeremy Burgin, assist in searching for narcotics, apprehending criminals, finding missing persons, and recovering evidence.* Cary’s Dynamic Duo is part of a regional canine program that includes Apex, Morrisville, and Holly Springs.
*
Cary’s Mayfair Animal Hospital donates Max’s entire routine healthcare. *Cary’s Veterinary Specialty Hospital donates specialty veterinary services if they are needed, and Purina is providing a year’s supply of food for Max.* In addition, Cary Towne Center Mall has made a cash donation of $1,500.*
