When I left last night, we had not decided when/where our next meeting will be.

Perhaps it was decided after I had to leave.

If not, we need to decide it here on this forum, I think.

Please sound off. Mike Joyce has offered to assist us in getting a room for the meeting again.

Hear ye, Hear ye.......

Out of school this week, and I have some spare time. I am willing to throw open the doors of my home for some meetings. If weather is good, the deck is great, but big dining room as well.

Possible times:

Tuesday, 11 May - 1 to 3 pm
Tuesday, 11 May - 7 to 9 pm (can go later)
Wednesday, 12 May - 1 to 3 pm
(First working session at 4 pm on Wednesday?)
Thursday, 13 May - 1-3 pm or 7-9 pm

Karen and I were able to accomplish much in a very short time. However, I think we came up with more questions than answers. If interested, please e-mail at Wuptdo@bellsouth.net for times and directions. These meeting will be very informal, but hopefully we can produced results the rest of the group can find helpful.

Have set aside, Wednesday, 12 May, from 1-3 pm for an informal work session at my home. I have kid pick-up, then I plan at being a the council work session at 4:30 pm. Hopefully, we will be able to forward a recap of our work that afternoon for others to review/comment.

So far, Cathy and Karen have signed up. Any others?

We just broke down, and went for DSL. However, it has not been a smooth transition (teenage tech reps!). So my e-mail, for now is shakey at best. Please e-mail at Wuptdo@attglobal.net and Wuptdo@bellsouth.net for directions to my home (in da'hood).

Thanks,

Mike B-)

OK, folks, I think we need to plan when our next general meeting is going to be. Thanks to several folks, I think we have some really good material to discuss.

In fact, I think we should plan our next couple of meetings right now.

I'll make a proposal to start the discussion:

How about next Thursday, 05/20, 6:30 p.m.
and Thursday, June 3, 6:30 p.m.?

Please sound off on when you can make it. Thursdays have seemed to work OK, but I'm open to meeting on various nights of the week if it allows more people to attend.

But let's settle on a couple of dates so that we can get a location set up.

Thanks.

These dates are good for me. I'll send out an email and see what kind of response we get.

These dates look good to me as well. However, I would also recommend an additional meeting on Tuesday, 25 May, at 6:30 pm.

Reasoning: 1) Not everyone can meet on Thursday night. 2) Council is going through the process now. 3) We are now past the information stage and have hard data to work with.

If everyone does their "homework" prior to the meeting, and we have a good agenda and facilitor coupled with someone who can take good notes the meeting should move much faster. Also, I am still willing to host small (5 people) work groups, day or evening.

Thoughts and comments?

Also, maybe this just me, but I am concerned with the lack of participation from other "active" (active being showing up at meetings) members on the forum. Point two: As we "Finalize" our report, inactive members show up and expect to add input into the final product. I have done committee work before and this happens also every time. Point Three: Inactive members taking credit for other members work, especially in todays "soundbite" media. 8O

Don,

Past experience from my F-V days. Group of 9 people, only 5 ever showed up for meetings and did all the work. We five sign the final report and submitted. However, when discussed at council, two of the inactives stood up, made comments and took credit. To add insult to injury, they where the ones quoted in the local paper and the N&O. This is were I learned that "responsible journalism" is a oxymoran in N.C. I have seen this happen more than once  .

Once again, looking for comments and thoughts.

Mike et al,

I agree with a Tuesday 05/25 meeting (believe it or not, I actually thought about that...I selfishly didn't include it because I probably cannot attend then...but we still should plan to hold a meeting then. I MIGHT be able to attend then but it's iffy).

So, Don H., please send out the e-mail with these 3 dates (Thursday 05/20, Tuesday 05/25, Thursday 06/03), all at 6:30 p.m. I will ask Michael Joyce to assist with obtaining meeting rooms once again; he remains willing to do that.

On the other matters that Mike brought up: I share the concern about last-minute input, if people have not followed the discussions. Everyone should have an opportunity to provide input, but not in an unfair, last-minute fashion. The good news in this case is that everyone is free to provide individual input as they see fit, as part of the process.

I am less concerned about non-participants "taking credit". Not that it might not happen, but even if it does, I don't care all that much. I don't care if I get credit for this work or not, and if others want to jump on the bandwagon even without providing any major contributions, I say let 'em.

Yes, we do. I meant to post it here earlier but forgot.

Next Meeting: Thursday 05/20, 6:30 p.m., Herb Young Community Center, Conference Room B

Next Meeting after that: Tuesday 05/25, 6:30 p.m., Bond Park Community Center, Dogwood Room

Next Meeting after that: Thursday, June 3, 6:30 p.m., Herb Young Community Center, Conference Room B

Thanks to Mike Joyce for assisting in getting these conference rooms.

I think the next meeting should start with reviewing the capital items identified by the Mike/Cathy/Karen subcommittee.

I think the June 3 meeting should include a discussion about how to compile and present our results.

I may not be at the Tuesday 05/25 meeting...can someone volunteer to record the minutes?

Gotcha covered. I can do it if you wish.

Just a reminder:

Brent - Do we have minutes or a recap of the last meeting? Also, do we know what we want to discuss/go over?

My 2 Cents: I recommend that we look over the CIP budget (line by line) and come up with some ideas of possible savings or realignment of priorities. Any other suggestions?
