We all deal with a lot of unpleasant things on this planet and in this community. Perhaps it would be nice if the ills of war, hunger, poverty, crime and the many unpleasant things we all tend to complain about weren't so often on our minds.

But we all have a whole lot to be thankful for. This Thursday is a time set aside for this nation to do just that. I wanted to wish the Cary Politics crowd -- all of you -- a very happy Thanksgiving and encourage everyone to take a few moments to truly give thanks during this holiday.

I'm thankful for the right to free speech that makes this online community so interesting. I'm thankful for a wonderful family and the opportunity to live in a fine community. The full list couldn't be completed; it really is a never-ending endeavor to count one's blessings.

But when we complain about the things we don't like, let's give thanks for the right to free speech and remember how many people don't have that.

When we sit down to our Thanksgiving feast, let's give thanks for the bounty of food and remember those who don't have that.

When we get irritated with other people, let's give thanks for our family and friends and wonderful human diversity and remember people who are lonely and oppressed.

When we grumble about raking the leaves, mowing the lawn and cleaning the house, let's give thanks for our home and remember people who don't have that.

Yes, let's give thanks. Please especially remember our armed forces personnel, the victims of hurricanes and other natural disasters and our public safety workers and others who work to keep us free and safe every day and form the front lines for helping others when they need it.

Call this hokey or corny if you like, but it's sincere and I felt compelled to write it. I'm thankful that I could.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Thanks Brent, well put!

Adding to the goodwill expressed in Brent's posting, let me included this little jewel. If you are traveling to or from North Carolina, you might find this interesting.

Welcome to NCDOT's
Traveler Information Management System. (TIMS) (http://apps.dot.state.nc.us/tims/)

Anyone want to share their favorite stories of Thanksgiving, or maybe that "secret" family receipe?

Not at all, Brent. This is obviously from your heart and is very well stated.

Here is hoping that you and all of the other CP family members have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yes, Happy Turkey trimmings to all! I have to say that I am thankful for the invigorating conversation and endless entertainment. I also think that we would really like each other in person (after a few stiff martinis). :-D

Have a great time with your families and loved ones.

Danna (yes, my REAL name).

You're right, Dharma. I think we have enough "new" people here that it's probably time for another CP party (yes, we've had them in the past and many of us have met many others in person).

Hyatt, should we make the CP Holiday party an annual thing? Who's in?

I'm in and we'll need a rough count so we plan accordingly :-)

I'm also celebrating and giving Thanks today, for a lot of reasons. I do that every time I go to a game, and hear the national anthem played, and see the flag flying as I make my daily commute. I give thanks each day for the job I have, for my friends, and yes, for being able to say what I believe is right and proper for our government and our politics. As much as we may disagree, I'm very glad we can, and have the system we do to settle our disputes. The rest of the world continues to benefit from that insight, and although it's slow and painful progress, we are on the side of human progress. But today, we have a day when we celebrate and give thanks together, as a community.

So yes, Thank you Brent, and to all those who came before us, especially those who have served and to the many who've died to make this day even possible. And a very special thank you to those who are now serving to protect this country, it's a day to day defense that will only go on as long as very special people are willing to accept the challenge of continuing to defend it.

Happy Thanksgiving to all, and thanks to all here who are keeping their eye on the prize, that being a free country and a great community. ##==

Happy Thanksgiving to all here. Mine is almost done, as of this writing it is 10:22 PM. I hope you all enjoy your turkey dinner as much as I did here. Mine was complete with all the trimmings right down to the pumpkin pie!

We all have many things to be thankful for. Our family, our health, and our ability to express freely our thoughts, opinions, and ideas. We all that have participated here should be thankful for these freedoms. And most importantly, I am thankful for the friendships I have made here on CP

I try to check in here now and then just to keep up on the latest. I am being transfered to a different location tomorrow, so I am not sure what that will bring, but hopefully I will be able to stay in touch. In the mean time, there are a few pictures on my blog site. Just go to ronthoreson.com and click on ronos writings if you are interested.

And on the thanksgiving, a special thanks to Don Hyatt for this site. It is truely a labor of love, and I am thankful he loves it!
