Wuptdo, in response to last week's call (from Wuptdo  ) to offer 3 things that would make Cary and/or our schools better, has a letter with his 3 reasons for each.
(C'mon, folks, certainly everyon in THIS crowd can come up with their own three things. Get those letters movin'!).

Send it in! (but we have a KFC, and I rather like the newspaper).

You know I was thinking of the KFC that closed in old Cary, you are so right. I guess you would like the Cary News since it is an outlet for your LTE. It seems that we agreed that a Smithfield Bar-B-Que would be nice, particularly since they claim Cary as their Headquarters.

Proposed LTE for Cary News:
In hist letter of November 30, Mike Dobson of Assignment by Choice claims "the Wake County Public School System has continually failed to keep up with growth. " This misdirection from someone of his political astuteness is astonishing. Clearly the County Commissioners are accountable for this failure. They are the ones who cut the schools request for construction funds by 45%. And when enrollments are stronger than expected they point to the forecasting system to draw attention away from their lack of foresight and prioritization. It is the County Commissioners who are accountable for the fact that the second wealthiest county in the state is 76th out of 100 counties in support of education relative to the ability to pay. (Data from the non-partisan NC Public Schools Forum.)
But I agree with another of Mr. Dobson's suggestions, i.e. the school board should have the authority to set the property tax rate in support of schools. School boards all across the nation have this authority. The two-headed system we have today does not work.
Many fear that giving the school board this authority would exorbitantly raise taxes. Rather the public should be concerned about the loss in their homes' valuation due to the "trailer parks" behind every school. And they should be concerned about how Wake County is going to recruit new businesses and grow the number of quality jobs if the public schools are allowed to decline. And any excessive use of taxing powers would result in board members being voted out of office.
We do not need, as Mr. Dobson suggests, to incur higher administrative cost by breaking up the school system. The future of schools in Western Wake and Cary is tied to the health of Wake's schools overall.

Pardon me, but this sounds an awful lot like "just hand over your wallet, and I'll tell you when I'm done with it!" Thanks be to God that a bunch that has shown ablsolutley no spending restraint, while simultaneously showing no vision has NOT been given carte blanche to the vault!
And people call ME a whackjob????? !-!

Well, yeah! :-D But it's an outlet for anyone's LTE that chooses to write, not to mention cartoons!
