FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 9, 2005
OUT WITH THE OLD AND IN WITH THE NEW SECTION OF
CARY TOWN HALL CAMPUS
Key Town Hall Departments to Start Doing Business in New Location Monday
CARY, NC - Citizens and visitors to Cary Town Hall will notice an "extreme makeover" on Monday, December 12 when the third phase of the Cary Town Hall Expansion opens for the first time since the facility closed for renovations in June 2004. Located at 316 N. Academy St., the newly-renovated Town Hall will offer new and convenient access to the Finance office off the concourse on the first floor and the Administration office on the second floor beginning Monday. During the following weekend, the Human Resources and Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources departments, along with the Inspections and Permits field staff, will move back into Town Hall and begin serving citizens there on Monday, December 19.
"We are very excited about the upcoming moves and the opportunity to serve citizens in the new facility," said Town Manager Bill Coleman. "We are doing our best to ensure that the transition will be smooth for everyone."
For now, temporary signs will be located throughout the Town Hall campus to direct citizens to the appropriate department; soon the permanent signs will be installed, including near the parking deck off Wilkinson Avenue. In addition, a map is available through the Town's Web site at www.townofcary.org.
Citizens needing to pay their utility and tax bills will now have convenient access to the first-floor customer service window. Customers may park in the free, designated visitor parking spaces on the circular drive off Ambassador Loop and enter the building from one of three entrances:
- Enter from the Ambassador Loop entrance and the customer service window will be located on the right;
- Enter from the courtyard and the customer service window will be located on the left;
- Enter into the concourse from North Academy Street and the window is straight ahead and to the right.
The utility bill drop box will be returned to its original location off Ambassador Loop next to the designated visitor parking spaces near the Finance Department.
Since the construction created one L-shaped building by joining two existing buildings, the street address 318 N. Academy St. will no longer be used. The entire building will be referred to as Cary Town Hall with an address of 316 N. Academy St. All existing telephone numbers will remain the same.
The Town broke ground on the $33.4 million project on July 29, 2002 and began the first phase that included a new 486-space parking deck located at 121 Wilkinson Avenue, and construction of the 120 Wilkinson Avenue building, which now houses the Police and Technology Services departments. This phase was completed in June 2004. The next phase, which was completed in December 2005, included the north wing of Town Hall that houses the engineering, inspections and permits, and planning departments. The final phase of the expansion includes completion of the Town Council Chamber that is scheduled to open for the January 12, 2006 regular meeting.
