For the last ten years or so, Japanese Animation (Anime) has been making way thru American Movie House and VCR/DVD. In Japan, animation is reguarded as a very high art form and is just as important as their live actor movies. I will add some names of some real nice family style movies and a few that are PG-13 at a later date.

However, I wanted to make you aware that some the Anime, can just be as easily rated R or NC-17. I rented some Anime for my teenagers and did not notice the rating at the time. Later that day, I happen to walk by when they were viewing one of these just rented DVD's. I was shocked 8O ! Without going into any details (least I offend the women folk), I would classify what they were watching as soft porn (not really being an expert in porn, but I think I know it when I see it  ). Now, the 17 year old was PO'd about taking was his movie (I paid for it) and pointed out that these weren't "real" people -- they were just drawings (sort of). I pulled the old parent favorite - my house, my rules routine.

Maybe I am just an old fuddy-duddy, but I believe their is a time and place for all young men to learn about these type of things, and that place is called College!

So warning to Parents, check the Rating prior to purchase or rental of Japanese Anime.

Years ago, a friend of mine who was into anime invited me to see an anime film in the theater on Hillsborough street. I did not notice its NC-17 rating. It was so violent, and mixed violence with explicit sex and abuse of woment, that I walked out. It was one of the "Akira" series of films, if I have spelled that correctly.

Not all anime is very violent, but even the tamest stuff seems to portray women in a rather offensive manner. It seems to be designed for appeal to 15-year-old boys who play violent video games but don't understand how to relate to girls.
