Anyone on the CTC who has been complaining about the lack of ambience and interesting restaurants along Chatham St. ought to start patronizing Cindy's House for dinner on Thursday and Friday nights. On those two nights only, it turns from a good ladies lunch place to a goumet restaurant. This gem won't last unless the folks on this board (and the lurkers) spend some $'s there. The brick sidewalks won't do the job.
Marcia and I had an excellent meal, comparable to some of the best food in the Triangle...at a much more reasonable price. We had excellent shrimp bisque, an equally good chopped greek salad and a huge platter of assorted sauteed seafood, including salmon, shrimp, crab, catfish and grilled vegatables. All attractively presented. The wine was good and priced right. The desserts in the chiller looked yummy, but we were too full by then.
The ambience is provided several very large, beautiful floral lithographs by Cindy's mother, Holly Bankowski. (Those of you who know Holly from the campaign trails ought to call or drop her a card. I understand she's quite ill.)
But there were only 2-3 tables occupied tonight and this hidden gem won't last (at least for dinner) unless it gets more customers. Downtown Cary has at long last, an excellent restaurant. Now all it needs is some customers.
Perhaps if town hall spent less money on consultants for the downtown area, brick sidewalks, buying land for an artsy, fartsy park and a grand performing arts center and more on promoting the small businesses in the downtown area, we would all be the better for it. Cosmetics won't do it. It small entrepreneurs like Cindy that make a town interesting and alive.
