There were also other races last night as well, and the bottom line, if you have children in Western Wake, you better learn to grab your ankles and learn to grin and bear it!!

School Board seats:
District Six - Clark(i) with 64%
District Four - Gill(i) - unopposed
District Five - McLaurin (Meeker's wife) - unopposed
District Eight - Margiotta(i) - unopposed (One ray of sunshine!)

District Three is contested and will have a run-off:
Hill - 47% (Edu-Rat)
LaVance - 30%
Wilson - 23%

The District Three will be a "edu-rat / status quo" in Hill verses a dedicated parent with some new ideas in Mrs. LaVance.

For the most part, the "inside-the-beltline" folks and the "Edu-Rats" are very happy campers right now as they have always been well taken care of. For folks living "outside-the-beltine," we are so SCREWED. Most of those re-elected last night hate the children of the suburbs and no doubt with their ITB "mandate" will go out of their way for more "diversity" payback against our children. Look for continued massive reassignments, poor planning, and more mis-management of our tax dollars.

Bottom line, the "haters" were either re-elected or exchanged, and we (suburbs) will pay the price for this.

Clark epitomizes the problems with the huge system. She represents very well her area, but in other places, she wouldn't get 2% of the vote. I realize that the same can be said for Ron. While I had little confidence that she would be unseated, it is still a huge disappointment for those who live outside her tunnel vision.

I'd support a 40% tax increase for a Cary School System. Cary is a part of Western Wake but is very different from other towns that make up this region. We need our own schools.

Just an FYI. I use the 40% tax increase figure based on several things:

1) No BS up front, our own school system will cost more and everyone should be prepared for that (worse case scenario)
2) Assumes that we have to absorbed the debt service on all newer school buildings (paying for past bonds)
3) Paying good teachers more, and paying math & science teachers what they are really worth, so higher labor cost
4) Having a first rate educational system for the 21st century will cost more. '
5) Buying "Green" buses??? At least no more shipping our kids all over the place.

I don't mind paying higher taxes for education, especially if that money is used locally. Local control, local taxes, and a much stronger community to boot. Who could ask for more?

I don't consider either Raleigh nor Durham part of our community and they don't consider us part of theirs. Though the Raleigh people have no problem spending our tax dollars or Bond money on themselves.

To follow up on Mike's point about community identity, it is interesting to look at the BOE District 6 results. Clark carried every precinct except one, 04-05. Interestingly, that is the only precinct which votes for in District 6 that doesn't have a Raleigh address for the polling place. It is in Cary. And since 04-05 also votes for the Cary mayor, it isn't a case of peculiar polling place placement.

From the NandO blog, WakeEd:

You can forget about the District 3 runoff.

Martha LaVance has announced she’s conceding the election to Kevin Hill. Her reason is that now that Raleigh City Councilwoman Jessie Taliaferro won’t request a runoff, she doesn’t want taxpayers to foot the bill for reopening all the polls just for the school board contest.

Here’s LaVance’s statement:

“Based on the fact that there will be no runoff in any City Council race, I have decided it is not in the best interests of the taxpayers or students of Wake County to request a runoff in the District 3 school board race. I thank my supporters for their interest in ensuring that impact on families and communication with the community become a priority of the school board. Their dedication to the improvement of Wake County schools and to my candidacy has been exemplary.

I offer to Kevin Hill my sincere congratulations and wish him the best of luck as the District 3 representative.”

Mr. Hill is another Edu-Rat and strong believer in diversity at any cost, and believes we all have money trees in our backyard. Look for four more years of education hell for the children outside of the beltline. The "Four Horseman" of NCAE and WakeEd Partnerships all got elected.

Now we need to focus of making sure the edu-Rat Goettee never gets re-elected in Cary. She has turned out to be nothing more than Bill Flecther in drag.
