View Full Version : Europe - NOT a Good Buy!

Either all the good people in Greece, Italy, and Great Briton are very rich (and thus "we" being Americans are very poor) because everything is so expensive. For instance, to eat dinner with a family of six, at average establishments in England, the average cost was around $150 (US). $6 US for a "pint of bitters" at local pubs and about $8 US for a Big Mac Meal. We would look at items to buy and the price would like ok by US standards, but then we would realize we would have to multiple by 2 to get the "real" US cost. When I would ask the locals why everything seem so expensive to us, they would reply with generally with two answers: 1) The war with Iraq or, 2) too many people in the Europeon Union (EU) not working and thus higher taxes placed on goods and services (Value added Tax - VAT). Therefore, we didn't buy to much, but did get to see many of the "tourist" sites.

Anyway, my advice is to put off that trip to Europe until a better rate of exchange. We were getting 53 pounds per $100 US.
