Although there’s been some buzz about Charlotte Republican Mayor Pat McCrory considering a gubernatorial campaign, I think it would be tough. Although McClatchey Newspapers own both the Raleigh N&O as well as the Charlotte Observer, the two cities still maintain an awkward dichotomy. McCrory certainly appears to be qualified but he is virtually unknown outside the Charlotte area and eastern North Carolina still holds sway in legislative matters. The only instance of a Charlotte area governor (and Republican) I can recall is Jim Martin twenty years ago.
I guess we should get ready to endure the upcoming Perdue/Moore “she-said/he-said” spend-a-thon. Great.
