Based on the town council vote tonight 2 - 5 (Marla and Jack dissenting. Hope I'm right on the names - if not my apologies) they are reconsidering allowing 2 sq ft "neon" lighted signs in downtown. Something about staff coming back with recommendations in a few weeks.

Jack was suggesting "open" and "closed" as a restriction for the content of the signs. The Mayor pointed out that the town attorney said that content of signs cannot be regulated. I was very glad to hear this since some of the political sign restrictions are content based I'm sure they are reconsidering these also :~) They are considering the concerns of some business owners and that is a very positive step as far as I'm concerned.

Job well done council

It is a step forward, but it's also a shame that they couldn't have just approved what was originally proposed at the last meeting. You know, the lighted signs that the downtown business owners wanted, that Staff recommended approving and that P&Z recommended approving.

Instead, the Council had to put their own spin (restriction) on the lighted signs.

But it is indeed a step forward. And it was Marla and Jack who voted against reconsidering this issue (Marla has made her opposition clear all along. Jack indicated that he would "keep an open mind" about the issue, which apparently means not wanting to reconsider it. ).

I found it amusing that Council couldn't seem to figure out the difference between "two feet square" and "two square feet". Oh, and their various "light" jokes were real groaners.

So Brent, you think we could find some smart *** business owner in downtown Cary to install a neon sign 5' by 5' made in the outline of two feet?

Excellent idea, John. I'll see if anyone comes to mind. Thinking, thinking...

Hmm, does anyone on this board have any ideas?

Let see, this sign will be for Cary Auto Sales on Ready Creek Road.

Sign is 5' x 5', pink & green neon with two large foot outlines. Sign would say: "Walk in, Drive out!"

Last night the town council repealed the policy of registering and charging a fee to candidates for political signs. :-D

Gee,

It's almost as if they realized they were being attacked and humiliated for being narrow minded boobs and control freaks who pass laws that demand a lawsuit.

But none of our solons read CaryPolitics now do they?
