The Plot: Republicans Cross Over, Vote as Democrats (http://www.cleveland.com/news/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/news/120505162549970.xml&coll=2)
Amanda Garrett, of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, reports, "A staggering 16,000-plus
Republicans in Cuyahoga County switched parties when they voted in last week's
primary."

Those who crossed lines were supposed to sign a pledge card vowing allegiance to their new party.

In Cuyahoga County, dozens and dozens of Republicans scribbled addendums onto their pledges as new Democrats:

"For one day only."

"I don't believe in abortion."

A Plain Dealer review of thousands of records showed few of those who switched were challenged by poll workers.

Wow! Rush does have some infleunce doesn't he? Anybody have a problem with this? I mean, if the Democrats did the same thing, wouldn't Republicans be a little angry that we're playing games to decide who your party candidate would be?
Just asking.........

Dharma - this "trick" is as old as the hills. Democrats have been doing this since the "War of Northern Aggression." I believe that at long last the Republicans are finally getting smart and taking off the gloves and playing the same game as democrats. Mean, hateful politics at it's finest. It is what made this country great. Check this out from the "Lord" of the democratic party, Boss Tweed:

http://www.killerclips.com/clip.php?id=142&qid=1989

"The appearance of the law must be upheld, especially while it is being broken"
- The Golden Rule of American Politics

As a matter of fact, I will encourage everyone I know to join the democratic party in Wake County in 2010. Why? Because the more registered democrats, the easier it will be for them to "gerrymander" the districts. Once the "gerrymandering" is complete and approved by the DOJ, the voting districts are "set in stone" for the next ten years. Then folks can switch to whatever party or status tickles their fancy.

Remember, the democrats have ruled this State with an "iron fist" since Reconstruction. Why isn't North Carolina the democratic "Jewel of the South?"

Wouldn't this be changing the subject, Wup?

Wasn't the Civil War back when the Republicans were Democrats?

Didn't that occur 147 years ago?Civil War timeline (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/cwphtml/tl1861.html) I have a difficult time understanding why someone born 100 years later would still vested enough to call it the war of Northern Aggression.

Basically, GET OVER IT, it had nothing to do with you.

I make no claims that the Democrats have been innocent with regard to anything EVER. However, I did ask if you'd be angry if the Dems crossed over and voted for Romney in an important state. You neglected to answer that and went on to talking about the Civil War and how Dems did it (when you admitted on an earlier thread that it isn't the same party now) and then how the Dems are gerrymandering NC. I hope you haven't forgotten how Tom Delay gerrymandered Texas recently.

It's a good idea to open a new thread about gerrymandering in NC and another about The War of Northern Agression. And now, let's talk about what happened in Ohio a few weeks ago. Are Republicans really THAT afraid of Obama? With your reference to the Civil War, I'm wondering if you have concerns that a black man could be our President.

So, how about it, Wup?

Dharma - currently helping my son with a "War of Northern Aggression" project -- to stick it to his left-wing, "PC" history teacher.

So what is your question anyway? It's gets lost in your post?

Which upsets you more, that thousands upon thousands of legal voters used their rights of citizenship to select a candidate of their "choice" from the opposing party, or that the illegals, the dead, and the misinformed (the usual Democrats) were not "proportionally represented" in this new mix?

I think what Daryl really wanted to say is "ill-informed Democrats that do not support abortion for a day".

It is ironic that the "pro-life" crowd quickly turns into "welfare queen haters" upon the birth of a child. I know that my statement is unrelated to this thread but I had to throw it out just to pi$$ Daryl off.

Actually, I could go with either Alan Keyes or Clarence Thomas...either would be a fine choice for President.

Agreed. Although I was very disappointed with how he did not stand up to Bush regarding invasion of Iraq. Maybe he chose to bow out with dignity.

No arguments from me regarding Obama. I shall strongly consider voting for McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee, unless McCain chooses to run with Rice or one of the NoeCons as his running mate. What is going on right now within the Democratic Party is sheer lunacy.

Why would the *ultimate* Neocon naming another neocon to his ticket be the thing that pushed you out? That's just kind of bizarre.

Highly agree. A class act.

I don't know about this. I think the Democratic Party is "morphing" into something new, and we get to watch from the sidelines. I just read something about this being very much like 1968 all over again. I'm hoping our "Democratic" experts on CP will keep us informed as to what is really going on.

And you are absolutely correct, if McCain goes with a neo-Con, he might as well put a gun to his campaign. I still think Mitt Romey will be his choice, but Collin Powell, or a established, younger, female senator and/or governor could work too. McCain has never "cow-towed" to the party elites.

At least I give them credit for "trying" to survey the lemmings. Enjoy.
