CBS defense of obviously forged documents:

"SOME ANALYSTS OUTSIDE CBS SAY THEY BELIEVE THE TYPEFACE ON THESE MEMOS IS NEW TIMES ROMAN.... WHICH THEY CLAIM WAS NOT AVAILABLE IN THE 1970S.

BUT THE OWNER OF THE COMPANY THAT DISTRIBUTES THIS TYPING STYLE.... SAYS IT HAS BEEN AVAILABE SINCE 1931. DOCUMENT AND HANDWRITING EXAMINER MARCEL MATLEY ANALYZED THE DOCUMENTS FOR CBS NEWS."

Many of you probably already know this but some may not: The particular font in question has indeed been around since the 1930's. And as long as Colonel Killian had his 'personal' memos professionally typeset, they could be legit. However, anybody trying to claim they were done on a typewriter of early 1970 vintage is a liar and/or a fool. I suspect Dan Rather now has enough rope to hang himself and he deserves every bit of heat he gets - and moore.

Admin Hyatt,

If possible, can you pull "Docugate" inputs into a separate thread? I have a feeling this is going to be big one.

After watching Dan Rather last night, I give him credit for the "misdirection" right up front and being somewhat prepared for the attack on the documents. Like JohnB mentioned: he is really out on the plank and the sharks are circling. This should be interesting.

Here's a link:

http://brian.carnell.com/articles/2004/09/000018.html

with a comparison of the superscript created by MS Word, as it is on the forgery CBS used in it's hit piece.

Their forgery is pretty simplistic. It's ashame CBS has decided to sacrifice any semblence of respectability and impartiality for the benefit of the Kerry campaign.

It looks like the MSM (main stream media) facade is beginning to crack finally, it is an indictment of their pro-left bias that it too this long and that it took bloggers to force the issue though.

The Washington Post cruxifies CBS today on:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A18982-2004Sep13?language=printer

The Post reveals that CBS's "experts" did nothing to verify the documents, just the signature.

A detailed comparison by The Washington Post of memos obtained by CBS News with authenticated documents on Bush's National Guard service reveals dozens of inconsistencies, ranging from conflicting military terminology to different word-processing techniques.

The analysis shows that half a dozen Killian memos released earlier by the military were written with a standard typewriter using different formatting techniques from those characteristic of computer-generated documents. CBS's Killian memos bear numerous signs that are more consistent with modern-day word-processing programs, particularly Microsoft Word.

"I am personally 100 percent sure that they are fake," said Joseph M. Newcomer, author of several books on Windows programming, who worked on electronic typesetting techniques in the early 1970s. Newcomer said he had produced virtually exact replicas of the CBS documents using Microsoft Word formatting and the Times New Roman font.

Newcomer drew an analogy with an art expert trying to determine whether a painting of unknown provenance was painted by Leonardo Da Vinci. "If I was looking for a Da Vinci, I would look for characteristic brush strokes," he said. "If I found something that was painted with a modern synthetic brush, I would know that I have a forgery."

One great thing about the internet is that that it breaks the stranglehold of the leftwing MSM on news and reporting. CBS, et al, hate bloggers because these guys were able to demolish CBS story in less than 24 hours compelling other MSM outlets to pick it up or risk their own credibility. Since CBS has decided to whore their integrity on behalf of Dan Rather's jihad against Bush they deserve a major shareholder lawsuit.

This is going to wreck CBS News in the ratings. And to think, these pigs have the audacity to sneer at Fox News. Not again, never again. CBS is an adjunct of the DNC.

I found this quote in the Sunday's N&O. It is from New York Observer, columnist Bruce Feirstein, in a published "Memo" to Dan Rather.

'How do you prevent yourself from being invited to be the headliner at the Disgraced Journalists Lollapalooza tour ("Hubris 2004"), splitting speaking fees at junior colleges with Jayson Blair? ...Go left, young Dan.'

Bruce Feirstein, 2004

It is little jewels like this that "make my day."

Thank you Holly. A good read, especially about how quickly Fox News delt with the issue. However, having only 1.5x clear glasses on, there is a big difference from private satire being published vice out right fraud.

Sorry Holly, but not much there to go on. Fox News screwed up, admitted it, and handled it in a timely manner (even I'm surprised). What I found interesting was the other networked didn't pick up on it and attack, especially since it was Fox. What CBS did on the other hand, well I will let the professional Bloggers tell the story. If you look to the left of the forum, under "Blogs of Note", then click on "RatherGate" you will find some interesting reads. :-?

A big thanks to Admin Hyatt for keeping up to date on this "event", least this get swept under the carpet. ##==

I have read several BLogs on "Rathergate." This was one of the better reads:

I hope to see this in the History books a couple of years from now.
