The Skipper, RosaGilligan "and the rest" continue their unwise tinkering with an unwise school assignment policy, this time proposing to remove one of the rare actual success stories of that program.
From the Enloe PTSA president:
It has come to my attention that Enloe's magnet and IB status is 'under discussion' by our Board of Education. Why on EARTH there would be any consideration to change the incredible programming at Enloe that our children take full advantage of and benefit greatly from is beyond me, but here we are...
As an Enloe parent, it's beyond me, too. Yeah, Enloe, like other schools, has its problems such as the "gang fight nee student altercation" discussed elsewhere in this forum, but those problems should be fixed at Enloe and all other schools.
Removing Enloe's magnet status is unwise. The magnet program at Enloe has, by all accounts, been a tremendous success and has garnered much positive recognition. I cannot understand why anyone would propose to tinker with such a successful program.
The magnet program is one of WCPSS's success stories, and Enloe is an exemplar of that successful program.
And for those of you who support the BoE's assignment policy, read the Board work session review comments of how "healthy" (according to the BoE's definition) Enloe would be as a magnet school vs. a non-magnet school.
It seems to me that "the castaways" have more than enough real problems to tackle without undoing something that actually is a success story.
