View Full Version : The slime attack by Kenn and the Realtors

The slime attack by Kenn and the Realtors through radio ads and mailers has begun. In line with their deceitfulness elsewhere, Kenn and his Realtors chorus totally misrepresent me...not to mention hiding behind an assumed name.

The so-called NC Home Owners Alliance (NCHOA) is in fact the NC Assoc. of Realtors (NCAR). Their officers are identical. The 2008 NCAR budget shows an appropriation of $400,000 plus for the NCHOA.

NCHOA/Gardner has taken a CP blog which simply stated the fact that a 1/2 cent sales tax increase has been proposed (by Sen. Richard Stevens) for an expanded transit system. The facts are that I have been promoting alternatives to the 1/2 cent sales tax - especially from businesses that would benefit from transit.

The facts are that the Realtors and Developers lobby support a one cent sales tax increase. http://www.tricc.org/Resolution2007.htm
As you could expect, so does Kenn.

Their claim is that I support a 20 cent increase in the property tax...again a total fabrication as I have supported for years local option revenue sources such as impact fees and APFO's that would moderate the property tax. The facts are that Kenn has supported a six year plan that calls for continuing increases in property tax - 150% more than he falsely accuse me of.

Kenn campaigned as a fiscal conservative in 2004 and 2008. He said he wouldn't raise your taxes...guess what he did? He raised your taxes both times. He voted for the $250 million convention center and the $30 million+ new administrative headquarters slipped in with the courthouse. And after the funds for the convention center were locked-in, he said they should have been spent on schools.

As in the case of the Triangle Aquatic Center, Kenn has a long record of saying one thing and doing another.

Politics is a contact sport and this misleading campaign is not surprising...especially coming from NCAR and there faithful sock-puppet, Kenn Gardner.

The only way to counter campaigns like this is to win on Election Day..which I will do.

Well call me late for dinner and feed me manure! I could have SWORN you were on the bandwagon for "FOWC" (Friends of Wake County), a somewhat mystical group, now vanished like a bedsheet brigade in a Nor'easter, but I think you know who they were..and perhaps a few of the names of your "friends" are to be found on BOTH lists! 8O In fact, "We know you know", to paraphrase a now infamous N&O reporters refrain. So, before you tell us about secret handshakes, backdoor associations, and closed-meeting social clubs, suppose you tell us you're a different duck.... you know, walks like, talks like, ...........

Just an observation I made after reading the Voters Guide in today's N and O. The Dems average age is 77, the GOP is 52.

Stan,

You've been rather vocal in your dislike for what you called "hiding behind an assumed name" for the Gardner campaign, and I'd like to know how you square that with your recent support of the "Friends of Wake County", which as we all know dissappeared off the face of the Earth, having never revealed their membership,, but receiving your quite vocal support? Doesn' that simply make you a hypocrite, especially since it's probably highly likely that the "FOWC" group you so vocally supported for the BILLION DOLLAR school bond issue is now fighting to defeat you in your campaign for election to the board of County Commissioners, reflecting their interests in their "builders" personna?

Or are you simply now trying to duck your incindiary and largely unpopular past?

Daryl,

Congratulations on using your own name when you post.

But your facts are simply WRONG. The membership of Friends of Wake County was published. Here is a reference

If I remember correctly, you criticized me for contributing.

Other than deleting names, here is the email I received today in response to my robo-call and the N&O article regarding the Realtors and Developers attacks on me.

Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed chatting with you this morning. I had just received a robo-call prior to your call and appreciate your patience as I slowly surmised I was indeed talking to a real person!!

I'm so very glad to hear of your sincere concern about educational issues facing our community. I hope my "ramblings" this morning at least pointed to the reality of our needs.

I would welcome an opportunity in the future to speak with you again. Best wishes in the election!

Hi Stan, our household just received your recorded phone message......all you had to say was that you've been targeted by homebuilders and developers.....In our household we support the impact fee, even though I'm looking to purchase a home in the next year or two......We believe in tax FAIRNESS and that businesses should PAY THEIR WAY. We will be supporting you. You have my vote for certain Good luck....Sincerely,

Just got your robo-call! Sounds good. Great article in the N&O this morning.

I read about you in this morning's newspaper, and find it reprehensible that realtors would cloak themselves as a homeowners' alliance to oppose your candidacy. I conclude, if I understood the article correctly, that the group would rather have homeowners' taxes rise than let growth pay for itself, which approach would hurt their pocketbooks instead.

For a long time I have thought that Wake County did not act, but instead reacted, as you say. Those moving into the area bought houses easily and developers, builders, and realtors profited handily. But the burden on the rest of us--traffic congestion, overcrowded schools (as a twenty-six year veteran public school teacher, I see the disadvantages first hard), higher property taxes--grew unabated.

I also received your robocall and was impressed by your acknowledgement that it might prove an intrusion into households. Be that as it may, the word must get out (I suppose we resent less those calls whose stance on issues mirrors our own, not a very principled attitude, I admit).

In any event, you have my vote and I hope the vote of enough citizens that you will soon be working for our county. Thank you for offering us your retirement hours.

Today I received a recorded message from you. You stated that you were "really sorry for disturbing me at home." Well, I checked my standing in the "National Do not call registry" and have been listed since March of 2006. I also read where political campaigns are exempt from this registry --- what a shame. I was really hoping I could file a complaint with them.

You see, you are probably the eighth pre-recorded campaign call I have received over the last week or less and, frankly, it's getting very tiresome. I realize that this "blast" is a very efficient means of reaching as many constituents as possible with very little effort on the part of the candidate. That is also a shame --- a recorded message. It gives no time at all to ask smart questions of the candidate. It only serves to irritate the person that receives the call. If the objective is to "stick a name" into the subconscious of an unaware voter, then that strategy results in a pointless election.

I respectfully ask that you be the first to pull the plug on the annoying "phone campaigning," make it known to others, and then maybe others will stop too. I'm sure I'm not the first annoyed citizen to complain about this. I am sure that you also receive personal phone messages from candidates.

Thank you for taking the time to read and consider this,
I am a registered Democrat; however based on your unsolicited robo phone call to me, I will not be voting for you on election day. I probably would have as I know little about you or your opponent, and I would have voted party line.

When will you people learn?

Stan,

You have been a part of the problem, and remain so. Your earlier supporters for those school bonds included a lot of realtors and developers (they're on yoor FOWC list), and they and you were all very big into keeping the growth coming.... you've said for ages that the schools were needed to keep the growth coming. Now, they're against you. And now, you call them slimy. If they are slimy now, the, and you, were slimy then. You want to get elected really badly, and you think you have the answers. Truth be told, you're just like any other loose balloon, travlelling at high velocity in an aimless path. Pardon me while I point out your hypocrisy. You want more growth, and mass transit, and big government and you're just upset that the realtors you were in league with for all this for the school bonds don't want your higher taxes and invasive bi government to keep their profits down.

I don't think the average voter wants your high growth, high tax Marxian five year planned, New-urbanized version of Utopia either. I know I don't.

Stan,

I support impact fees, we're in agreement on that. It's all the other baggage I can't get past. Your undying support for the School Board, your vision of a high-density mass-transit Wake County, and your support for a transfer tax which places an undue burden on people 'cashing out' out their homes to fund their retirement, and your belief that any problem with schools can be solved with more money.

I do find it ironic that the same FOWC'ers you were running with in 2006 are against you in 2008.
