Last night after the first reports were pouring in, I thought that Price would win by a landslide. Turns out, he won by about 3 points. This should be a wake up call for him. He needs to increase his visibility if he wants to get reelected in two years.

I am confused. WRAL shows Price winning with 63% (263,150) to Lawson's 37% (151,668) with 100% of the precints reporting.
What am I missing?

Perhaps you're [edited to add: meaning ICorpse] looking at Wake County-only results.
Full results from NCBoE show roughtly 65-35. http://results.enr.clarityelections.com/NC/7937/13284/en/summary.html

If you look across all the Congressional races across the state, the 65-35 ratio holds. Who ever said that "gerrymandering" doesn't work or exist?
Tip: If most republikans in NC switch parties in late 2009, they will show up as "demokrats" in the 2010 census. Since in NC the election maps are drawn based on two-party system and the NCGA will "re-draw" the maps in early 2011. If most folks are demokrats, what will NCGA do? Independent voters are not counted in the election district maps process.

This also is generally true for the NCGA. The vast majority of seats are "safe" seats one way or the other.

I think you are right. My bad. In any event, him barely winning by 3 points in Wake is not a good sign.
Apologies..
