Joanne - I'm a precinct officer who will be unable to attend due to a previous commitment.....can I give a proxy to anyone for this or do my fellow officers from my precint just get to vote our precinct's full strength?

To answer your question - I am not completely sure. I would shoot an email to info@wakedems.org.

I know proxies are permitted for the CEC meeting; however, I believe delegates to the County Convention require preselection at your precinct meetings.

You're right - I got confirmation from Blaise that there are no proxies at the County Convention. Whatever pre-selected delegates show up get to vote the full strength of the precinct. Just in case anyone other than me was wondering....... ;)

Charlie, I'll help with this one since Joanne's unsure. According to the NCDP Plan of Organization, Sections 5.0 to 5.03 found here (http://ncdp.org/05_north_carolina_democratic_party_plan_of_organiz ation) anyone who is a delegate from your precinct may cast the votes for your precinct at the county convention. Section 5.02 spells it out nicely on who can vote and how it all works for each precinct.

Of course if we don't have a quorum (at least one official delegate from fifty percent (50%) plus one (1) of the precincts with duly elected delegates to the convention) then wake county won't be able to vote in a new board or conduct any official busines. Given our precinct organization has dropped dramatically this past year, we really need to have folks make an effort to attend on Sat. 18th to help elect a whole brand new board of officers. Hope that helps.

Announced WCDP Board candidates are listed below. We need to encourage more people to get involved at the local level to help lead our democratic party and recruit candidates especially among those new voters who made such a difference at the Nov. 8th election.

There's still time to get on the ballot. A special meeting tonight of the Cary Democrats will provide the inside info on how to campaign, what to do in advance of the convention Saturday and how to get your name on the ballot. The meeting is at 6:30 PM TONIGHT at the Eva Perry Library in Apex (conf. room).

Unchallenged candidates will be automatically installed as officers. Here are the current candidates to date:

Chair: Jack Nichols
First Vice Chair: Mary Starkey
Second Vice Chair: Steven Hill
Third Vice Chair: Dan Blue III
Raleigh Vice Chair: Bernard Allen and Stephanie Erickson
Wake Vice Chair: Don Mial
Cary Vice Chair: Ruth Merkle
Treasurer: Chris Lizak
Secretary: Aida Doss Havel

To be eligible for the regionally specific vice chair roles you must be a registered democrat by April 18th and live in the following areas:
- for Wake Vice Chair: any area in Wake County outside of Cary or Raleigh.
- for Raleigh Vice Chair: Raleigh residents only
- for Cary Vice Chair: Cary residents only

All other board officer roles require that you be a registered democrat living in Wake County in order to be eligible to run.
