The Western Wake Democrats will hold a forum on Tuesday, October 27, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. to discuss gangs in schools. Cary Town Council member Erv Portman will moderate the event and the Cary police department will give a presentation.

The meeting will be held in the training room at the Cary Police Station, 120 Wilkinson Ave, Cary, on the Cary Town Hall Campus.

The forum is open to the public. People from all political parties are invited.

The Cary Police Department will be giving a presentation about "Gangs in Our School" on Tuesday, Oct 27th. The meeting will be from 7:00 to 8:00pm. The forum will be held at the Cary Town Hall Campus - 120 Wilkinson Avenue in room 2005-A. The conversation will be about gang activity in our schools, gang awareness and gang prevention. There will be a Q&A to that follows the presentation.

The moderator is Erv Portman, Cary At-Large Councilmember. This non-partisan event is being hosted Cary Politics.org and the Western Wake Democrats. The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Matthew Danielson 919-522-9837.

Too bad the Wake County Gang Violence Prevention Task Force isn't giving a presentation. They'd tell you that removing School Resource Officers from elementary schools was a bad idea.

There is a single statement saying "intervention should start in the early grades". The report focuses primarily on the need for community involvement and mentions that too much direct police presence can actually increase bonds between gang members. It does note 9 suspensions related to gang activity in Elementary Schools vs. 150+ in High Schools, noting that gang activity increases with age.
