I've been trying to figure out why we elect a register of deeds and what exactly they do...can anyone direct me to this information? Also, why do they list their party it doesn't seem to be a very political job? Heck...maybe I'm wrong. Thanks!

Holly, please see the following:

http://www.wakegov.com/directory/register.htm

All sorts of good info if you look around this website.

Have fun!

And if you think this is an inconsequential race that won't affect you, think again.

One of the candidates wants to put all of the register of deeds information online. Sounds good? Maybe at first...but it would be a silver platter for identity thieves: See http://www.newsobserver.com/politics/elections/ncraces/story/1671263p-7907327c.html

I know some Democrats who will be voting for the incumbent Republican register of deeds (so will I) just because this online information proposed by the Democratic challenger is scary.

I hope that people will cast an informed vote in this race. I doubt that the vast majority will.

Brent,

What information would be there besides what you can get from http://msweb01.co.wake.nc.us/realestate/search.asp ? You can also get any registered voter's name, address, party, birth date etc. from the board of elections. I'm just not familar with what the deed would list than what is already there.

Thanks, Holly, all we need now is a social security number and we can be driving off in new Hummer 2 & 3's from Hendrick. :-D :-D

Here is the website for quick access to voter records as well:

I don't know about the rest of you, but I am a little uncomfortable with all that data out "there" on us.

What is really weird is seeing a picture of my current house when it was stucco and all the bushes were only two feet high. :o

Believe you will find that DOB has been dropped from BOE online database. Still appears on the pollbook however. :-D

I got it about 3 weeks ago from the BOE. Unless it came off since then it is still available.

Anyone that knows a few searches etc. on the internet can get just about anything about you in a few mintues. I'll get some free time today and show you a demo of exactly how scary it is. I suppose I'll have to use myself so no one has their data posted but you'll have to believe I'm not cheating :-D

But of course Holly, we all learned on the internet that Kelly likes to drive around with her top down. I'd not be surprised at anything you'd find about yourself.
