Ok, I voted around 8:55 am at the Cary Academy. I waited about 30 seconds for signature confirmation and about 10 seconds to get the ballot. Plenty of voting booths. I was voter number 409.

On the way out, in the parking lot, was stopped by a Bowles "exit" poller. Was asked about President, Senator, Congress, & Governor (very polite). I was not truthful  !

So get you butts out there and Vote!

And don't forget: Dick Nixon for Congress and Brent Miller for Water & Soil Board! :-D

There was a line of about 100 people at 6:30 a.m., across the street from your polling place, at Cary Fire Station #1. Line had thinned by the time I left (around 7:15).

Cool! I am all for messing up the exit polls!

If nominated I will not run. If elected I will not serve.

At about 10:30 am there was a line of about 10 people at Cary Fire Station #1. I was voter number 607. Jennifer Weiss and Janet Cowell were both standing outside. At noon WRAL was broadcasting live from there and there was NO line! Made a great live shot.

Wow, that is already WAY more (at 10:30) than voted during the entire day in last year's local election (about 400) at that precinct. I know that national elections are expected to be much higher, but this is looking like a sign of a pretty good turnout.

Arrived at Cary Fire Station #2 at 6:15 am, waited 45 minutes to vote. I don't know what # I was - didn't bother to ask - but the line was wrapped around the building towards MacDonalds. Only poll worker there was for Cowell, lot's of signs though!

Don, you can just look at the little number on the magic box where you insert your ballot (if you're like me, they will direct you to a special box -- you insert the ballot and it makes sounds amazingly like a shredder!).

Just drove over to Cary Academy(CA). There is no line. Bill Flecther(sp) was there meeting/greeting.

Over by the Fire Station, just up the road from CA is a couple of guys holding a large "Kerry/Edwards" as you go up Harrison Avenue.

It is going to be a long night!

There wasn't a line at Cary Academy when I went to vote at 11 am either. #663.

I saw those guys holding the sign too as I was driving home from picking up the kids...

Long night for sure...

Being Wild Bill's b!tch on the school board isn't a qualification for State Superintendant.....

Thanks for the campaign updates Don....now that the election will be over the half and half in my morning coffee won't curdle anymore. ;)

Maybe because it is one of the finest schools in the country and its his vision of what all school in NC should be like (after massive tax increases).

I know if I was running for Super of Public Schools, it is the last place I would be seen. Trust me, the people around here in this district have no love for this back-stabbing SOB (re. redistricting back to CHS).

Good news! Richard Burr wins! Bad news - David Price wins! Good news - Amend One is still up in the air 50/50! Bad news - Ken Gardner won (barely)! Expected Bad news - "Tax Hike" Mike Easley wins! Bad news - Brad Miller wins! Bad news - BoB Etheridge(sp) wins! Bad news - WCC now can spend another $55 million dollars in bonds (how come we get to vote on "open space" and "WTCC" improvements, but not the Raleigh Convention Center?)

Real good news - BUSH WINS NC!

(Gave up on the Single Barrel and went to Peach Brady)

It still going to be a long night!

Brent - I hope you made some phone calls up to your "Buckeye" friends!

Osoma bin Lima - NC is Red! Bring it on, goat lover!

Bush = 246 Kerry = 209

It is now 12: 45 am on 3 Nov 04. Just a few minutes ago, Dan Rather of SeeBS said this:

If I had to bet the double-wide, I think Bush is going to win it, if he wins Ohio!

Whoops, this is Cary. Ok folks, a "double-wide" is two moblie homes that are attached at the side and share a common roof, to make a bigger "home." Other names for moblie homes are trailors, metal mansions, tin homes, and a few others I can't think of.

Anyway, Dan looks tired, and is starting to use his "Texas" country-boy slang. How many of you knew that Dan Rather is a "cowboy" at heart, and even has his own ranch.

According to Fox, there are still people in line at some college in Ohio (200 hundred or so) for the two available poll booths. Some have been waiting for 10 hours. Give them credit for hanging in there.

The talking heads on TV are all starting to sound the same now.

Ok, I am bagging it for the night. As of this moment, it is:

Bush = 269 Kerry = 221

Need 270 to win!

For the most part Ohio is in the Bush Camp. However, a little while ago, CNN put Ohio into "Green" status; i.e., too close to call.

Let us hope we wake up the the following N&O headline!

BUSH WINS!

Nite all!

Wuptdo B-)

Let's us pray, that there will be more hope on the way from Ohio!

One wonders what might have happened if Kerry had chosen a running mate who could deliver his/her home state...

Brent-

The problem wasn't the running mate. The problem, is that Kerry put together a campaign strategy based on not winning any southern states.

The didn't bother spending any time here- had they, they probably had a *decent* chance of winning NC. NC was too close to call for about 2 hrs after the polls closed last night.

That's not true, the democrats never thought they had a chance to win here. They set up shop and campaigned a little primarily for the benefit of Bowles, and to a lesser extent, Easley. Now, in retrospect, that turned out to be a bad idea, but it made sense for them at the time.

In March democrats were saying they didn't need any Southern states to win, and they were right given that they thought Ohio would go for them. Again, this turns out not to be the case, but at the time it appears a sound strategy.

I don't know if you guys have looked at the election breakdown by Wake County precinct, but it appears that voters in Cary OVERWHELMINGLY voted AGAINST Amendment One.

Wuptdo
11-03-2004, 11:32 AM
Haven't done my homework, but you have to look at the way that the "Amendent One" was written and marketed. If you go 20 miles off of any Interstate Highway in NC, the population changes dramatically. For the most part good people, but lower educations, lower job skills, lower SES, but high moral fiber (churchfolk); some may say "redneck" others will say "salt of the earth." However, they probably voted for Amend One cause the way is was "sold" to them; i.e., create jobs but not raise taxes (works for them).

Question: Why was Mayor Ernie helping in the marketing of this taxpayer rip-off? I thought he was on our side (fiscal responsibility)?
