As an avid gardener and exotic (palm, cycad, agave) plant afficianado here is an excellent after Christmas bargain from me to you....

Take your cut Christmas tree and trim the branches off, throw them in your compost pile and use the trunk as a planting bed border.

If, like me, you are consumately cheap, well not really, my wife just won't let me buy soil amendments when I have, literally, tons of leaves and grass clippings available in or within mere steps of my yard, you'll grab your neighbors trees at the curb and do the same.

If you're EXTRA cheap and lazy, as I plan on being soon, you'll have a Craftsman wood chipper in your driveway and you'll ask your neighbors to drop off their trees. Fir scented mulch for you and they don't have to put up with a dead tree on the curb in front of their house.

Now, if you're a REALLY, REALLY, REALLY cheap SOB you'll stop the next tree service truck in your neighborhood and have them drop a load of wood chips off. Most will give it too you since it saves them from having to find a spot to dump it illegally or drive out of their way to pay to dump it legally. Use it 2-3 inches in depth and it will compost in place for you nicely. Best of all, did I mention? It's free.
