The last time, I am told that local luminaries attended, national presidential candidates (Al Sharpton) attended, and there was dancing on tables.
Who is up for another CP Party? To ease the burden on Hyatt, I wll buy ONE FIRST ROUND of drinks (Kelly, if this suspiciously changes, the deal is off).
What say you?

Sounds like a good idea to me but I'll need to make sure Oliver is willing and able to attend. If I can secure his/her presence, I say let's make a go of it.

As long as Blue Dress Monica doesn't show up trying to sell latex cat toys this might work.

Why are you spoiling the fun John? When and where and I'll try and be there!

I'd love to but realistically probably wouldn't be able to make it...

Mr. Admin Hyatt,
I do not get invited to many parties, so I would love to attend this one and meet all of the interesting personalities from this site, especially if Mr. Brent is buying drinks (it is my understanding that the Coca-Cola Winery -- domestic, if I'm not mistaken -- has two new vintages, "cherry" and "vanilla", and I hope to sample these).
My only social commitments for the next several weeks are the Rotary Club potluck dinner and the Rotary Club cutthroat domino tournament, so there is a good chance that I could make it to your party (and Muffkins is fine by herself for a couple of hours).
I also could perform a review of the establishment where the party is held. Would it be in poor taste to hawk my new book at this party?
Please let me know where and when the party will be held and what attire would be appropriate.

Opens cash box and watches a few moths fly out. Hmmm...I can put a few bucks into the pot -- I wonder if it is tax deductable?
Name the time and the place, and I will try to be there.
Anyone ever see the "Cary Living" Magizine. They always show pictures of parties, featuring Cary elites. I think (in a special way), though maybe not social or economic elites, we, being the folks in CP can be classified as (do I dare say it) intellectual elites. Anyway, if we do this, I would call the "Cary Living" folks and see if we (being CP) can be featured. Food for thought!
Another idea. Anyone ever see the Fox TV sitcomm "King of the Hill." That's sort of the way I view this forum. Later in the spring, I would be willing to put out a mini-keg in the front yard some Friday or Saturday evening. Come on by, bring your own chair, sit awhile, shoot the breeze, and violate Cary's open container drinking laws.
I would only do this once the smell from the North Cary WWT Plant is fixed (or the wind if blowing in the other direction). My neighbors won't mind, as matter of fact, most of them would probably join in. (hmmm...probably will have to get a full-keg then  )

OK, Hyatt, if you believe the posts and the polls here (and I know everything on this site to be true, not to mention fair & balanced  ), then several people, including Oliver and two Town Council members, would attend a CP St. Paddy's Day party (and apparently, attendance would increase, at least slightly, if you were to do a table dance, but we can work out those details later  ).
It seems that we just need to decide on a time & place. St. Patrick's day (17th) is on a Wednesday. I wonder if the following Friday or Saturday (19th/20th) would work? Is Chuck 'Em a good place, or do people know other good places to try? Wuptdo's front yard? (that works for me!)
Let's get the ideas on the table and get organized, folks! I look forward to buying both JohnB and Mark a drink. The economic and philosophical implications of that are unending!

Copelands on any Tuesday nite! They have $3 Hurricanes and some draft on special, plus it is a very nice bar with good eats!

So, folks, we've got a vote for Friday at Chuck 'Em and a vote for Tuesday at Copeland's. I am guessing, could be wrong, that Friday may be a better bet for getting more people.
If Hyatt is willing, I'll try to coordinate something with him in terms of setting up a venue and we'll make an announcement here in the very near future.
We will, of course, expect all 8 people who voted in the poll, including the two Council members, to show up, along with any others who didn't bother to vote.
Watch this space.

How about Hibernian on Kildaire Farms road? They have great Irish whisky and great beer! I know Kelly, Hyatt and several town council members enjoy it. B-)

Sorry about the duplicate posts. I was having a little problem but I'm better now.
Friday should work. Anywhere is fine with me. I've never been to the Hibernian, but picture it busy as heck on a Friday evening.

Sure, bail on us, Hyatt, even though apparently some people would only attend the party if you did a table dance. Now what are we supposed to do?
I will look into the various suggestions here and try to set something up. Remember, it's not the venue that's important, it's the fellowship and comraderie, right? Right? RIGHT?

Spiros and others,
We're looking at Friday evening -- mark your calendars now! The CP entertainment committee is exploring potential venues and hopes to reach a decision by this evening (stay tuned!).
Brent
03-16-2004, 12:17 PM
OK, folks, the CP Entertainment Committee has reached consensus. The two-days-after-St.-Paddy's-Day CP party will be held this Friday 03/19, beginning around 5:30 p.m.
One contingent wanted to show up at Ernie's house and raid the refrigerator. Another faction lobbied to have the party at Stonewood Grill, just to tick off JohnB. However, neither of those groups were able to muster enough votes, so the committee agreed to have the party at Out Of The Park on Airport Blvd. (satisfying Spiros's request for a sports bar). See http://www.outofthepark.com for directions and other information about this venue. An interesting sidelight is that Out Of The Park is actually outside Cary Town limits, so we all can Celebrate Morrisville!
Please let me know if you're attending! I need to give them an updated headcount. E-mail me or post something here. Kelly, Don F., Oliver, Karen, Wuptdo, Mark, Cathy, Spiros, JohnB, Laurie and the two unnamed Council members, this means you! Along with anyone else who wants to attend. Unfortunately, I have been advised that Hyatt will not be performing table dances.
As posted earlier, I will buy *ONE* round of drinks for CP members (don't even think about it, Kelly  ). I might even be persuaded to buy an appetizer to share if we get a good turnout.
Once again, this is:
This Friday 03/19, 5:30 p.m., Out Of The Park http://www.outofthepark.com, reservation under "Brent".
PLEASE RSVP!

Sounds just lovely Brent. But since Hyatt is not performing table dances as I was counting on, I regretfully decline your offer. Unless you take his place of course!!! 8O

Brent and Advisory Board: Has this place been approved by Mr. Oliver?
The good thing about this location is after we get Brent and a few others to buy a few rounds, we can go around the corner to Remington Grill for "cheap" beer and wings (or dinner - I think Friday is all you can eat rib night). :)
Will have to check with the Boss (Stargate season final)

Brent
03-16-2004, 05:03 PM
Oh, I think this can still shape up well. I'll bet that Kelly, Don F. and Oliver will all come (what say you, folks?). And I'll bet that Wuptdo can get The Boss's approval, and I'll bet that Cathy will come if all these other esteemed guests will be in attendance. And Mark, you'll come if we buy drinks, right? Oh, and what about HW, SteveG, Stan and the rest? And that doesn't even count the 2 council members.
We'll make a party of this yet. Let's hear from the rest of you!

Oh, horsefeathers!
This is the same night as my Rotary Club potluck dinner, and the guys are really counting on me bringing my soup du jour. Plus, the scuttlebutt is that one of our members will be bringing meatballs, and this is a rare event indeed (I hope it is not Kyle; he always uses too many bread crumbs).
In any case, however, I WILL, yes I WILL attend the CP party, however briefly. Our Rotary Club dinner begins at 6:15 (setup at 6:00, but this month I am on the cleanup committee, not the setup committee). So I should be able to attend the CP party for the first 20 or 30 minutes and get my free drinks from Mr. Brent and Mr. Spiros. I expect that the soup du jour will stay warm enough while I attend this event. If all goes well, I may be able to do a review of this establishment, although it might be abbreviated (someone please remind me to check out the washroom!).
I look forward to meeting all of you, and I may be able to take orders for my book, if anyone is interested. Please arrive early if you wish to place an order; if I am late for the Rotary Club potluck dinner, there is a penalty which I really don't care to detail to non-members.

Update and Reminder:
The second CP Holiday Party is TOMORROW, Friday, starts 5:30-ish, at Out Of The Park on Airport Blvd. in CelebrateMorrisville!
Expecting at least Brent, Spiros, Laurie, Don and his "better half" (arriving later), Oliver, Kelly & Cathy (perhaps with her "other half"). Hoping for Wuptdo, too (what did the Boss say, Wup?). Would love to see others, too, but if you're going, let me know or else you may not have a place to sit.
See everyone there!

I have been given the OK to attend by the boss. However, I have come down with a case of spring crude, and do not wish to inflect the group. I will see how I feel in the late afternoon. Most of my class's today were at 50% -- this is what happens after Spring Break!

CARY TO BREAK GROUND ON $13 M BIOSOLIDS DRYER
WHAT: Groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the start of construction on the Town of Cary’s (and the Triangle’s first) biosolids dryer
WHEN: 11:15 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2004
WHERE: Town of Cary South Water Reclamation Facility, 4900 West Lake Road
WHO: Congressman David Price, Cary Town Council and staff, contractors
BACKGROUND: The Town of Cary breaking ground on the region’s first giant, state-of-the-art dryer that will turn nasty sludge into useful fertilizer. Sludge, known in the treatment industry as biosolids, is the remains of organisms that digest the solid matter left over after the water in sewage has been removed, treated, and released into creeks or reused. In North Carolina, wastewater system operators must dispose of the sludge according to strict guidelines, which often results in contracting to have the sludge land applied or having it placed in landfills. Cary’s biosolids dryer is expected to cost $13.3 million and should be operational in the winter of 2005. Congressman David Price has been instrumental in securing $ 1.35 million in federal funding for this important project.
DIRECTIONS: Cary’s South Plant is located at the southern most tip of Cary, about 20 minutes from downtown Cary. From the Crossroads Shopping Center area at the corner of US 1/64 and Walnut Street, take Walnut Street south to its termination at its intersection with Tryon Road where Walnut Street becomes Holly Springs Road. Continue south on Holly Springs Road past Penny Road to Ten Ten Road. Turn left onto Ten Ten Road and right at the next light on to West Lake Road, which dead-ends at the plant. Call (919) 779-0697 if you have questions on getting there.

Well, I would have to say that tonight's party was an overall success. Don F., Brent, Laurie, Cathy (and "other half" Mike), Wuptdo, Spiros, Kelly, Oliver and Darryl Guest were all there at one time or another, and we had spirited debate about everything from roads to public art to Iraq's oil. Thanks to Laurie for thinking of making name tags.
We will have to await Oliver's review of this place, but we noticed that no one was raving about the service (Cathy nearly died of thirst...twice). However, we all eventually got something to drink and eat and most of us were able to avoid the overflowing toilet.
The company and discussion was great, and a good time was had by all.
Oh, and Celebrate Morrisville!
