Grapevine has it that Lori Bush will be challenging Jennifer this Fall. She evidently received a personal visit from a couple of influential community leaders encouraging her to run. If it's true, then kudos to Lori for throwing her hat in the ring (though not officially yet).

Lori Bush could represent District A about 1 million times better than the current District A representative.

Plus, that would make my decision much easier; I can move directly to District C!

That's too funny!

Lori is a member of the P&Z board.

Since I said this was a "no holds barred" forum :-), try this on for size:

More than one CP members (to remain nameless) were 'dissed' from P&Z appointment because certain council members said "P&Z should not be used as a launching pad for political office." It appears what they really meant was that "P&Z should not be used as a launching pad for political office unless he or she is someone we would like to see get elected, then it's OK."

That's tough.

I think what they *hopefully* meant, is that they don't want to see people with known political aspirations using P&Z as their mouthpiece/doing the politically popular thing as opposed to just making the "best" choice (read: the choice the council would like best).

Honestly, it seems like quite an oxymoron to me. Perhaps those who applied for P&Z who have/had political aspirations have those aspirations purely because they want to serve/do right by the community. In which case they are the PERFECT people for P&Z.

What council means is that a P&Z appointment should not be used as a launching pad to take my office.

Indeed. But it is OK to use a P&Z appointment as a launching pad to take the office of some other council member that certain council members want off of council.

So if the P&Z board is a lauching pad to CTC,
Shouldn't CTC members be seeking higher office as well,
since CTC is nothing more than a launching pad to higher office as well?

Heck, if that were the case, Jack Smith should be Governor, whoops, sorry, not enough power, I meant Speaker of the NC House.

Then there are people like John Baker that think holding public office is a divine right (the old dog wants his job back as Sheriff of Wake County).

Now I know how "Miss America" feels when she gets those roses, puts on the sash, and walks down the lighted runway. On you behalf Admin Hyatt, I treated myself to a Sella Artois! Congrats!

OT: Weird night: 1) I hit 1400 postings on CP; and,

2) Editor-Andy and I were doing our homework and heard a weird yapping sound outside. After about 30 seconds the dogs started yowling. Ok, something was going on. So, we went outside and saw a fox attacking a big persian cat in my front yard. We hooted and the fox and cat ran off. It has been over an hour and the dogs are still worked up.
