stonewood over at Cary Parkway and James Jackson.....

great food, really great food....horrible service....they went to the bottom of my list of restraunts because of their horrid service....I have a trifecta of restraunts I don't visit now for bad service;

Stonewood - TGIF - O'Charley's

...that last one should be renamed, Oh let's just get the hell outa here.

you know John you are not the first one in the recent past to say that about Stonewood. What exactly was bad about the service?

I have been to Stonewood many times and have never received anything but excellent service.

We have eaten at Stonewood many times and really enjoy the food (pot roast for me). However, the service is always been so-so, in that we always seem to have a server in "training." Knowing a fellow student who worked their for awhile, she relayed to me that turn-over was high due to management (of lack thereof). Good wait staff is hard to fine, and when you do, you need to pay them well, and treat them right; this holds true for any business that caters directly to the public.

1-first contact with the server took over 10 minutes once seated....

2-infrequent refills on the water

3-table not wiped down properly prior to new guests being seated

That about does it I think.

To contrast we went to Olive Garden the following night and the waiter there was CLEARLY "in training", HOWEVER, this guy was great for a new waiter, heck, he was better than a lot of experienced waiters. He got his tip and the Stonewood waiters tip as well.

I will try the Stonewood down in Gainesville, FLA when I visit my daughter and see if this is a chain problem or a Cary problem. :)

Worst: Applebees on Kildaire Farm Road. Wait staff appeared to be at war with the kitchen. This was five years ago - we won't go back. The only thing that was keeping that place in business then was overflow from nearby restaurants.

Honorable mention: Torreros (sp?), four years ago. After being seated, nobody ever came to our table to take our order. We tried to flag people without success. 30 minutes after being seated, we just walked out. We only recently decided to go back. We like the food but it took us some time to forgive that.

The Mrs. and I did Stonewood Grill the other night. (Line outside of Bonefish and not motivated to "dress-up" for Baxter's or the Chop House). The best I can say is "Ho-hum." Was seated quickly and waiter was right there (slow night). However, we need a few minutes to decide between a bottle of wine or drinks -- he wanted that drink order right away, so we ask for water to start (The water glass was never filled after that point - mine was empty after mid-meal - to some this is minor issue - for me a biggee). We opted for drinks and it took at least 10 minutes to arrive (it was not busy at the bar). We order the crabcakes as a starter, and though very good, they were very small (not worth the $9). The Mrs. has the fish special (warmish) but good, and I had the pot roast. Since there was a little crust on the garlic mashed potatoes, that indicates to me that our plates were sitting under the warmer for awhile. Also, it took quite awhile for the busboys to clear the table next to ours. The waiter was ok. Overall, I now rate Stonewood Grill as expensive family dinning (recent price increase). For me, Stonewood Grill is now equal to O'Charley, On the Border, or Ruby Tuesdays.

Stonewood got a new manager sometime between April 19 and June 15.

Kelly - check out the Bar at the Bonefish Grill; they have pretty good martini's as well (myself, I am usually a navy grog & coke man). There is only one bad thing at this bar -- too many realtors complaining about their clients. :roll:

However, for the best deal in town (this is where I will be tonight) is Copeland's at Crossroads. $3 Hurricanes!!! 8O :grin: :D :-D
