Cary Politics Rules

Forum Rules & Code of Conduct

The First Amendment is greatly respected here on Cary Politics. However, Cary Politics is private property and requests that members adhere to all forum policies. It is a contract agreed to by all who become members of Cary Politics. Those who break forum rules cannot invoke censorship or freedom of speech and attempt to claim victim status. (You can try but you won't get much sympathy.)

General Rules and Code of Conduct:
  • While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate personal attacks or needlessly inflammatory posts.
    • Personal attacks include attacks or insults on CP Member's families.
    • If you wouldn't make the comment in person in front of your parents and/or kids then you should think twice before posting it.
    • Challenging someones views and opinions is what debate is all about. We encourage healthy debate. Debasing someones personal traits - physical, emotional, spiritual, or otherwise - is prohibited.
    • You can disagree with other members, even vehemently, but it must be done in a well-mannered form.
    • Attack the argument, not the arguer.
  • Controversial topics are encouraged as long they have a stated purpose.
  • Absolutely no revealing of personal information without consent from the party in question. This includes no disclosure of places of employment. It's appropriate to post "you sound like you might be a gardener". It's not ok to post "George works at XYZ Landscaping".
  • Profanity is prohibited and subject to editing or deletion without notice.
  • Posting of pornography is strictly prohibited. Using the PM or email system to send pornography to another member is strictly prohibited and may result in ban if requested by the recipient.
  • Advertising, spamming and trolling are not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to spam other members.
  • We do not allow posts that are sexual in nature or violate community standards. The Administrator and Moderators shall be the arbiters of what does and what does not violate community standards.
  • Discussion of illegal activities is restricted to comment on events, people, and places. It shall not include "how to" information unless it is strictly pertinent to an event(s) that is in the news.
  • The Administrator and Moderators reserve the right to edit / delete any post that could get someone in legal trouble.
  • We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.
  • The Administrator and Moderators encourage everyone to treat each other with mutual respect. Do not use Cary Politics to threaten, harass, stalk, or abuse others participating in these services.
  • Cary Politics does not tolerate disruptive activity online, such as persistent off-topic comments and postings or statements that incite others to violate this Code of Conduct. Our participants want to debate and discuss in a positive environment.
  • We also reserve the right to ban anyone who willfully violates the forum rules, as access to our forums are a privilege and not a right.
Advertising Services and Solicitation

We do not allow people to post threads or to send private messages or emails to users here that advertise or solicit any products or services. Requests for donations to political candidates, PACs etc are allowed to the extent they don't get out of hand.


The Administrator and Moderators can not be online 24x7. It is incumbent on all Cary Politics members to abide by the rules and, where appropriate, do their individual part to help enforce them. The forum is equipped with a "User Infraction" system and a "Report Post" system. These are accessed by choosing the appropriate icon at the top of each post.

When a post is reported, it will be sent to the site Administrator and Moderators for evaluation and action if necessary.

If a User Infraction is assigned, a screen will display asking you to choose the type of infraction and whether or not to simply issue a warning. Once a user accumulates 10 points, they are automatically Penalty Boxed, meaning their posts have to go through moderator approval prior to actually being posted. After the indicated duration, the user will automatically return to normal status. Repeated trips to the penalty box can, at the Administrator and Moderators discretion, get you banned. A user in the penalty box will be noted as "Penalty Boxed: username" when online. The Administrator and Moderators will cite those that abuse the infraction system.

We cannot provide a comprehensive list of "Things Not To Say". Posts that are contrary to the above policies, or to the mission of Cary Politics, may be edited or deleted at our sole discretion. Membership may be revoked if such a step is deemed necessary by us. We're a private venture enabled by an all-volunteer staff. Please treat this venue as a polite discussion in a friend's home.
