Mosque Madness PDF Print E-mail

Mosque Debate Is All Wrong

The mosque debate should not be about funding nor about the 9-11 families. It should not drag us into discussions about religious tolerance or lack thereof. It should not be about an Imam's personal agenda and his questionable alliances. It most certainly should not be about politicians clamoring for attention.

The only relevant debate point should center around history, specifically the history of Islam marking its conquered territory with large mosques. Even then, the question should not be focused primarily on whether or not that is what is being attempted, whether it's a mosque or a cultural center, rather we should be paying attention to the perception of the placement.

There is no doubt whatsoever that the Islamic extremists and jihadists will perceive the building of the mosque at its proposed location as a major victory. There will be more dancing in the streets and chants of "Death to America".

They do not know any other way and to afford them this symbol of victory and buttress their perception of an Islamic victory over the United States, thereby encouraging further efforts to vanquish the "Great Satan" (that's U.S. for those that may not pay much attention), doesn't seem very smart to me.

In fact, building the mosque and/or cultural center anywhere near Ground Zero seems to me is just plain stupid....

Leadership by Jindal PDF Print E-mail

THIS Is What Leadership Prevarication Politics Looks Like

Great leadership? sadly no  Evil liar? also no  Political animal?  Evidently.

chaboard brought this to my attention: http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/archives/individual/2010_06/024443.php
Looks like there's a new story until I hear a satisfactory explanation...

Bobby Jindal
Cary, NC - It's 900+ miles from here to Baton Rouge, LA, three times further than to Washington, DC.  I'm used to looking North to DC for leadership in times of national distress but the man who promised us hope has instead decided to specialize in finger pointing.  The President of change has changed his tune from bashing Bush to nothing more than searching for an ass to kick.  President Obama is not responsible for the Gulf oil spill and it is clear that he's also not responsible enough to do anything to actually help once the disaster occurred.  With a 10 second utterance or swipe of the pen, he could have easily and quickly cut through Washington's red tape and OK'd the creation of off shore barrier walls to help keep the oil from reaching the Louisiana coast. Instead he played golf.  Fortunately, LA Governor Bobby Jindal, tired of waiting on BP and tired of waiting on DC bureaucrats, ordered the National Guard to start building the barrier walls.  That's the difference between taking action and being a leader and simply being a narcissist waiting to make sure he points the finger away from himself and in the direction that gains the most - or hurts the least - politically.  Jindal may have trouble picking out a tie but at least he knows how to lead in an emergency.  That's miles better than what we have now.

The Audacity of H.E.L.P. PDF Print E-mail

The Audacity of H.E.L.P.

Small businesses are the backbone of North Carolina’s economy. They account for 99.7% of all employer firms, employ more than half of all private sector employees, and have accounted for 65% of the new jobs created in the last 15 years.

These same small businesses have been hit particularly hard by the current economic crisis. Thousands of small businesses across our state have been forced to downsize, and in many cases have gone out of business.

May marked North Carolina’s 15th straight month of double-digit unemployment and North Carolina now ranks 11th in the nation in unemployment.

Small businesses throughout North Carolina need help. North Carolinians need and want jobs.

Under North Carolina’s current leadership neither is likely to happen.

Legislative Democrats – including my opponent - continue to oppose any real economic reform and instead seem intent on creating gimmicks with silly names to intentionally mislead the public. There is no better example of this is than HB 1721 – the “H.E.L.P. Small Business Act”.

H.E.L.P. stands for Health Care, Employment, Leverage and Preparation. This legislation would provide qualifying small businesses with a whopping $1000 tax credit for creating AND sustaining a job for three years.

A $333 a year tax credit will not help businesses provide health care to its employees. It will not stimulate any kind of employment. The only reason the word leverage was selected was because you can’t spell “help” without an L. The only preparation this bill will result in is the preparation of additional paperwork required by a business to qualify for the credit.

This legislation will not help businesses create one job. It might cover the costs of their toilet paper…unless of course they happen to be in the restaurant business.

We can improve North Carolina’s economy and create jobs – real private sector jobs. But it takes leadership with the guts to make unpopular choices, reduce government spending and create a competitive tax climate. Small businesses are who will lead North Carolina out of this recession – not gimmick legislation.

H.E.L.P won’t help at all. But it looks good on a campaign mailer – the real intent behind this legislation.

The audacity of them!

Adcock Solicits Support for Abortion Coverage
Asks Planned Parenthood For Help

Councilwoman Gale Adcock is soliciting citizens to speak out in favor of abortion coverage for Cary employees.  This is supremely distasteful and unethical behavior for any Cary Town Council representative.

Received via email:

Good Morning Friends,

I just got a call from Cary City Councilwoman, Gale Adcock.  The Town of Cary is voting on the budget tonight and they believe that antis will be in attendance to speak out against abortion coverage for employees.

Gale would like us to recruit 10 Cary residents to attend the meeting tonight at 6:30 pm.  The public speak out will begin at 6:40 pm.  She needs folks to only talk and speak out if others do speak against coverage.  In other words, our folks don't say a word if we don't have to.

She also wants us to stay strictly to our talking points:
  • Employees deserve comprehensive health coverage and abortion care is part of that.
  • Elected officials should not be cherry picking which medical practices are covered for their employees but should stick to approving a comprehensive plan.

Basically, she wants us to stick to the higher ground, bigger picture and not whether or not abortion is a moral issue.

Thanks,

Melissa Reed
